Frequently Asked
Answers to common questions
We source exclusively from the registered Uji region of Kyoto, Japan — the birthplace of matcha. Our matcha is made from first-harvest tencha leaves, traditionally stone-ground on granite mills at just 40g per hour. We work directly with Uji farming families, ensuring full traceability from field to cup.
Ceremonial grade is our finest matcha, made from the youngest first-harvest leaves and intended for traditional preparation with just water. Premium grade comes from the same registered Uji farms but uses slightly more mature leaves, offering excellent quality for both traditional preparation and matcha lattes.
GI (Geographical Indication) is a government-registered designation of origin. Japan's Ministry of Agriculture has registered 'Uji Matcha' as a GI — meaning only matcha produced in the Uji region of Kyoto can legally bear the name. Matchoya sources exclusively from this registered origin.
Store your matcha in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors. Once opened, we recommend keeping it in the refrigerator and consuming within 4–6 weeks for the best flavor and color. Always reseal the package tightly after use.
